Welcome to the new area of Batteau.org that is dedicated to everything related to building an authentic James River style Batteau.

We are pleased to present original photos from the dig at the Great Basin.

This new section of the website is being developed by long time Batteauist, Ralph Smith. Ralph has volunteered to update the construction manual and furnish as much first hand knowledge as possible.When complete, the new Construction & Authenticity Guidelines will be available for download in the .pdf format so that hard copies may be printed out and bound by the individual boat builder as needed.It is the goal of The James River Batteau Festival to privide as much historical and modern information as possible to ensure that our Festival will live well into the future and that this historical style of batteau will not be forgotten. Please bear with us while we work on this new section.
