The VC&NS had a table at the 1st annual Rivanna Riverfest on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Darden Towe Park in Charlottesville, Virginia. This event used to be called the Rivanna River Regatta and has been held at Darden Towe in May for the past 15 years. Now, with a new name, a new host, and events having been added, this year’s event was the “first.”
The river race continues to be a centerpiece of the event. New to this year was a 5K footrace called the Fix-A-Leak Family 5K. The event is hosted by the Rivanna Conservation Alliance and the theme is water conservation. Spectators had numerous vendors to visit – along with the VC&NS, there were tents set up by LEAP, the Earth Day Network, Virginia Outside, several water and sewer authorities, and Charlottesville Parks & Recreation. There was also face painting and balloon animals for the children.
The event was well attended and visitors had an enjoyable time. If you’re interested in participating in the race(s) next year, I would also like to mention that there was ample parking as well as shuttle buses to take people from parking at Darden Towe to the starting point of their race.
